In this next part I describe in some detail the Action Phase , which is where players will spend the bulk of their gaming time. There are four kinds of actions that can be executed: 1) Strategic Action 2) Tactical Action 3) Transfer Action 4) Action Card A player can play #1 to #3 anytime when it is his turn in the Action Phase. Once you have Passed, you may not take any further actions in this phase. Strategic Action A player execute a Strategic Action by playing his Strategy Card. From as far back as I can remember, I have always dreamt of controlling a star-spanning empire; the political intrigues, military battles, the conquests. Twilight Imperium Third Edition (TI3 for short) delivers that not on a computer screen but with face-to-face human adversaries in a good all day (or night) tabletop session. A great way to spend a weekend. ;-) You can get the rulebook from the Fantasy Flight Games website . It takes about half an hour or so to go through the rules. Its not too difficult to imagine some folks who need to turn up for a session on the morrow and need a quick run-down before the game. What I intend to do here is to cover in 2 short parts the basics of the game, enough to get anyone started. Last Monday I asked Kit Meng and Diana out for dinner at a place called Settler's Cafe at Katong. I meant it as a surprise for Kit Meng whom I perceived was a gamer waiting to come out of the closet. Since I wasn't sure how exposed to games Dia was I chose simple ones. We started with TransAmerica, the objective was to be the first to link up all your cities with railways. As simple as the game is it has good strategic elements and it helps to have a keen eye as to where your rivals are headed. The next game we played was Niagara. Unforunately I was so engrossed playing it I didn't take any pictures! Its actually a great game about collecting gems along the Niagara filled with much excitement as you must be careful not to let your boats go over the falls while looking for opportunities to steal other player's gems. In an extra-ordinary parliamentary session, Guo Yonghe has been elected by majority vote among the Houses as Xing Cheng's 13th First Voice since the formation of the Republic.jointly nominated by the Council of Military and Council of Shi, only 2 other candidates nominations were accepted and Guo Yonghe won with 73% of the votes. The official swearing-in ceremony will be conducted tomorrow and FV Guo will be announcing his new cabinet immediately after. It is expected most of the existing Ministers will receive appointments in the new cabinet although there are hints of minor changes. The public response is overwhelmingly positive, FV Guo status as a war hero and his handling of the protestors at Wansheng Street.
