Scene 13 - To the Train Station
Pierre drove the motor-car swiftly down the street and presently came up to the alley where the ambulator was parked. Stopping the motocar behind it, he carried Marie into the back of the ambulator and did he best to staunch the bleeding with what equipment he had. His initial assessment suggested Marie was very lucky and the shot did not hit any vital organs or major arteries.
Pierre did what he could to stop the bleeding then drove the ambulator towards the train station in the hope that he would not get spotted in the encroaching darkness. Reaching there he realised his plan to leave Angers by train or road is dashed as the local constabulatory has already set up roadblocks and is checking on passengers departing by train. Joseph obviously had the same idea as Pierre spotted him and got him into the ambulator before they were seen. Heading back to the house seemed the best thing for now. Pierre hopes Harumi has the same thought. Joseph took to caring for Marie who was speaking nonsensical sentences through the morphine haze.
14 Back at the House
Harumi, who has superhuman night vision stayed in the darkness for a while, her agility and steath allowed her to easily evade her pursuers. When the coast was clear she made her way back to the old woman's house through her unerring sense of direction. It was not long before she was joined by Pierre and Joseph carrying Marie.
After making sure Marie was comfortable and sleeping, they gathered round the dinner table with the old woman for some supper and discussed what to do next. It was clear someone wanted them out of the way. All agreed the House of Tergeon is mixed up in the affair somehow. With the report in the papers of the closing of the Angers fortress the next day and the market rumours of something peculiar at the fortress, the trio felt something might be happening at the fortress, and should be checked out.
Scene 15 - Surveying the fortress
On the morrow, the old woman with Pierre disguised again arrived at the fortress to find it barred. After chatting with the guards, they learned that the place was closed by the Tergeons and something might be happening tonight. Pierre made a survey of the fortress exterior and managed to get a rough and general map of the interior from a young tout. Swiftly they made their way back to the house to share what they have learned with the rest.
